This exciting one-year course gives you a broad introduction to the creative possibilities of art, design and media. During the course you’ll study a range of specialist subject areas including printmaking, fine art, three-dimensional design, digital design, graphics, drawing techniques and film-making. As you gain confidence, you’ll develop the practical, communication and personal skills you will need to successfully progress on to your next level of study. The course includes visits to exhibitions, locally and in London, and primary drawing trips. You may also have the opportunity to take part in competitions or open art events, giving you valuable real world experience.
What will I learn?
You will study seven units, during which you will explore communication in art, drawing, painting, film-making, editing, 2D design, graphic/digital design, sculpture and time-based art. You will also conduct your own artist research and create exhibitions of your work.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
You will mainly be assessed through practical coursework. You will have the opportunity to participate in interesting live briefs which are set by external companies and organisations.
If you are taking Functional Skills or GCSE re-sits as part of your programme, these will be assessed by exams.
This Level 1 Diploma in Art, Design and Media is accredited by UAL (University of the Arts London).
Usual entry requirements are 4 GCSEs at grade 1 or 2 or equivalent experience, but entry is determined on an individualised basis and subject to an interview.
Additional Costs and Information
There is a studio fee for the year of £100 which is payable at the beginning of the course. This contributes towards an equipment pack and the materials you will use, as well as your study trips (eg. to exhibitions in London).
What Could I Do Next?
Having successfully completed this course you could progress on to a Level 2 course such as the UAL Level 2 Art and Design or Media Diploma.
