Course Overview
Are you interested in Art & Design and wish to explore and extend this interest via a full-time immersive learning experience? Then this is the course for you.You will study a range of subject areas including, printmaking, fine art, three-dimensional design, graphic design and drawing techniques. You will have the opportunity to work on live briefs in a professional context, building upon your existing practical skills, art concepts and approaches to ideas development. As you gain confidence, you’ll develop a broad range of design and digital skills which will be showcased in the work you produce.The course includes visits to exhibitions, locally and in London. Opportunities to take part in competitions or open art events are also included where appropriate.
What will I learn?
The Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design consists of eight units, across the year. These will include a range of projects in the following areas of art: Communication in Art, Drawing, Painting, 2D Design, Graphic / Digital Design, Sculpture, Time-based Art, Artist Research and Exhibitions of your work.
Entry Requirements
- Four GCSE passes at grade 3 (grade D) or above. These should include maths and English
- A recent portfolio of work
- A good reference
- A satisfactory interview
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
- UAL Level 2 Art & Design Diploma.
- The course is mainly assessed through practical course work.
- You will have the opportunity to participate in interesting live briefs which are set by outside companies and organisations.
- If taking Functional Skills or GCSE resits, these will be assessed by exams.
Additional Costs and Information
There is a studio fee for the year of £50 which is payable at the start of the course, this contributes towards an equipment pack and the materials you use as well as your study trips to London exhibitions, for example.
What Could I Do Next?
On completion of your course you may choose to progress onto these following courses
Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress onto a Level 3 course of study, such as the UAL L3 Art & Design Diploma. After that, you can progress onto the foundation course or straight onto a degree at university.
