Course Overview

Have you always been interested in art and design and would like to explore and develop your skills through a full-time immersive learning experience? On this one-year course you’ll study a range of subject areas including printmaking, fine art, three-dimensional design, graphic design and drawing techniques. You’ll have the opportunity to work on live briefs in a professional context, building upon your existing practical skills to develop your ideas. As you gain confidence, you will develop a broad range of design and digital skills and get the chance to showcase your work. The course includes visits to local and London-based exhibitions and opportunities to take part in competitions or open art events.

What will I learn?

You will study eight units across the year, undertaking projects in communication in art, drawing, painting, 2D design, graphic/digital design, sculpture, time-based art, artist research and exhibiting your work.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

You will mainly be assessed through practical coursework. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in interesting live briefs which are set by external companies and organisations.

If you are taking Functional Skills or GCSE re-sits as part of your programme, these will be assessed by exams.

This Level 2 Diploma in Art, Design and Media is accredited by UAL (University of the Arts London).

Entry Requirements

• 4 GCSE passes at grade 3 (D) or above, including English and maths.
• A recent portfolio of work.
• A good reference.
• A satisfactory interview.

Additional Costs and Information

There is a studio fee for the year of £100 which is payable at the start of the course. This contributes towards an equipment pack and the materials you will use, as well as study trips (eg. to exhibitions in London).

What Could I Do Next?

Having successfully completed this course you could progress on to a Level 3 course such as the UAL Level 3 Art and Design or Media Diploma, after which you may choose to do a Foundation course or go straight on to a degree at university.
