Careers Advisor recognised for her work supporting College students as part of National Careers Week.

National Careers Week has seen double success for Wiltshire College & University Centre Careers Champions.

On Tuesday, we announced that Ania from our Business Development team had been recognised for her work in supporting young people and employers in the Horticulture sector.

We’re delighted that our Careers Advisor Debbie Spencer, was also recognised by The Careers & Enterprise Company partnered with the Gatsby Foundation for her work supporting students in the College.

Debbie, who is based at the Chippenham campus, said: “It felt amazing to be recognised as a Careers Champion after being nominated by Hannah from the Learning and Skills Development Service team. I work very closely with them and really value equality and diversity so try to do all I can to help our students succeed whether this is on a course, apprenticeship, in a job, volunteering or as part of projects such as Get Ahead.

“I love my job, especially hearing about success stories of students going on to do amazing things with their lives and sometimes realising it could have been as a result of a careers appointment with me.”

Debbie sits in the Career Hubs at the College, and works alongside the Work Experience and Business Development team which delivers apprenticeships.

She said: “I have good knowledge of the different areas because of the people I work with and an understanding of the range of opportunities available to young people.

“The hub is a fantastic place to work and I am looking forward to when we go back to normality and seeing students there.”

Debbie added that the whole Careers/WIN team has been working exceptionally hard throughout the Covid-19 pandemic supporting young people with careers appointments, UCAS applications and arranging virtual events and talks with employers.
