Course Overview
If you’re fascinated by machines and want a career in the land-based industries, an apprenticeship as a land-based service engineer is the perfect way to earn while you learn. You’ll work towards a recognised qualification while gaining industry experience, supported by expert lecturers and your employers throughout the process. The work of a land-based engineer is diverse, hands-on and skilled: you could be inspecting new and used machinery, carrying out routine or emergency maintenance, assembling equipment, conducting diagnostics or preparing others to use machinery in the workplace. The blend of skills you acquire on placement will be reinforced by classroom and practical learning in College, using Lackham’s diverse range of industry-leading equipment, machinery and vehicles to take your learning to the next level.
What will I learn?
Learning in your apprenticeship is broken down into three elements: knowledge, skills and behaviours, giving you essential daily skills underpinned by the deeper understanding you’ll need to use and transfer these skills throughout your career. You’ll learn the correct identification and application of tools and equipent, methods of thermal and chemical joinery, and the fundamental principles of machinery, plant and equipment. Skills will cover basic repairs and maintenance processes, across power, hydraulic, electrical and technological equipment. Behaviour will give you the attributes of an excellent employee, from safety to comunication, teamwork to adaptability, which will be invaluable when seeking work.
Entry Requirements
Minimum GCSE grade E (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
All applicants will be required to pass initial assessments in Maths, English and ICT.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
This apprenticeship will take between 18 and 24 months to complete.
