Course Overview
The motor vehicle aspects of this course will be taught in the college's workshops and technical classrooms. Learners will develop the essential skills and knowledge required by today's motor vehicle industry. The course runs in college for three days per week. This course is for those students who have either completed the IMI Level 1 course or those who have prior achievement of other relevant subject areas. All students following this course will need to continue with math’s and English unless they have a GCSE at Grade 4 (C) or above.
What will I learn?
This course will provide students with the underpinning knowledge and skills required to work in the motor trade and will cover the following units:
• Health and Safety, ready for industry expectations.
• Working with others.
• Automotive foundation skills.
• Engine mechanical, lubrication and cooling.
• Fuel, exhaust, induction and ignition components.
• Chassis components, brakes, suspension, steering, wheels and tyres.
• Electrical components.
• Vehicle inspection and routine servicing.
Entry Requirements
IMI Level 1 Diploma in Transport Maintenance Light Vehicle or prior achievement of other subject areas to include math’s and English GCSE grade 4 (C) or above.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
Students on this course will sit IMI online exams and take vehicle and workshop-based assessments as well as completing a range of mandatory units. Math’s and English is included for those without the required GCSE’s. There could be the need to do small amounts of work at home and revision before an examination, students will also be expected to complete a minimum of 30 hours work experience within the academic year. Final Qualification: Level 2 IMI Subsidiary Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Technology.

You will need stationery, overalls and steel toecap safety boots.

On completion of your course you may choose to progress onto these following courses
Students will normally use this qualification to move into apprenticeships or the Level 2 IMI Diploma in Auto Electrical and Mobile Electrical Principles.
