Do you want to reskill or upskill for a career in the health sector?This course will provide you with the employability skills, knowledge and competencies essential for both career and academic aspirations. Recognised nationally, this high-quality professional qualification has been developed with employers and is aligned with the occupational standards.

What will I learn?

This Pearson accredited qualification will support you to develop best practice in the critical areas of healthcare specialist support. This is achieved through the innovative design of set assignments alongside a placement requirement and completion of a Practice Learning, Assessment and Development (PLAD) portfolio.

This qualification has been designed for those working as or seeking to become trainee assistant practitioners and, ultimately, assistant practitioners in healthcare. We offer a selection of optional units to enable healthcare specialism development with real-world scenarios and industry collaboration in programme design. Students can progress from this HND programme on to a compatible top-up honours degree programme or equivalent level 6 qualification.

The programme includes the core mandatory modules listed below for the 1st year.

1: Law, Policy and Ethical Practice 15
2: Demonstrating Professional Principles and Values in Health and Social Care Practice 30
3: Supporting the Individual Journey through Integrated Health and Social Care 15
4: Fundamentals of Evidence-based Practice 15
5: Principles of Health Education 15
6: Effective Healthcare Practice Using Maths 15
7: Applied Anatomy and Physiology 15

The programme includes the core mandatory modules listed below for the 2nd year:

8: Innovation and Improvement through Participatory Action Research 30
9: Reflective Approaches in Implementing Person-centred Practice 15
10: Planning Care in Practice 15
11: Meeting the Needs of Individuals with Long term Health Conditions 15
12: Team and Individual Leadership: Mentoring and Coaching Others 15
13: End of Life Care Planning and Support 15

Including one other optional unit to be confirmed upon student consultation.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

A Higher National qualification is equivalent to either a level 4 or level 5 university qualification, for example a foundation degree.

This level 5 course will be delivered using a blended approach of both class-based sessions and remote learning.

Entry Requirements

It is expected that you will have achieved a minimum of 48 UCAS tariff points from a relevant level 3 qualification before commencing this programme.

However, if you do not have relevant level 3 qualifications, but have appropriate work experience, you are also welcome to apply.

You may be invited to an interview.

Qualifications in English and Maths:
GCSE grade C (4) or equivalent in English and ideally grade C (4) in Maths. However, there are options for you to complete your Level 2 Maths qualification while studying on this programme.

International Students English Requirements:
- Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2.
- PTE 51
- IELTS 5.5: Reading and Writing must be at 5.5 or equivalent.

Level: This qualification is set at level 5 (HND).
