The level 1 Hair and Beauty-Barbering pathway aims to provide you with a range of essential and practical skills and knowledge which will enable you to develop further training within the barbering industry. The skills include carrying out services such as shampooing, conditioning, cutting men’s hair and facial hair, drying and finishing men’s hair and creating basic outlines in the hair. This qualification is suitable for anyone over the age of 16 years. You don’t need any previous knowledge or experience to start this qualification.
What will I learn?
This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training within the barbering industry. This includes an introduction to the hair and beauty sector, presenting a professional image in a salon, shampoo and conditioning, styling men’s hair and health and safety.
The Hairdressing department works with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of your training. This includes structured work-experience or work-placements within their business and classes, or lectures given by industry experts.
4 GCSE’s at grade E (2) or above, or an equivalent (to include English and maths). Enrolment is also subject to a satisfactory interview and a good reference.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
You will be assessed in the Aspire Academy of Hair and Beauty salons. A minimum of three-hours a week home study is required and you will need to carry out work experience. The final qualification on this course is the Level 1 Certificate in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector.
Additional Costs and Information
Students will need a uniform and a kit for this course which can be purchased through our online shop. In cases of financial hardship, funds may be available to help with the cost of this.
