Course Overview


Delivered at our Salisbury campus and franchised by Bournemouth University, the aim of the programme is to prepare you for working in a scientific environment.The Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Biomedical Science will give you the vocational skills and knowledge to be attractive to employers at the end of the two years study.Emphasis is placed on nurturing you to learn new scientific and mathematical skills within a safe and enabling environment. You will learn how to research and will undertake a work related project in the second year.

Entry Requirements


Applicants should normally have:

48 UCAS Tariff Points (normally to include Biology).

5 GCSEs at grade C (4) or above which includes English, Maths and Science (or equivalent).

Experiential learning will be considered for mature students with appropriate work experience (at least 2 years), evidence (portfolio) and references. Please contact the college for further information.

Applicants whose first language is not English must offer evidence of qualifications in written and spoken English. Acceptable qualifications are TOEFL 550, IELTS 6.0 or direct equivalents.

Applicants who do not have sufficient experience or formal qualifications may be eligible to attend the Foundation Year of their chosen Foundation Degree provided they meet the minimum entry requirements.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications


Assessment includes reports, coursework, practical skills, presentations and exams.

All modules are designed to enable you to engage in new areas of knowledge to acquire practical experience of a range of activities relevant to your employment within the biomedical science industry and to encourage you to engage in critical reflection.

Teaching and Learning:

You will be given the opportunity to participate in lectures and workshops, plan and deliver presentations to your peers, research areas of relevance to the degree programme, critically evaluate the validity and implications of information and work with a wide variety of biomedical science hardware and software.
