You will be supported in your learning through demonstrations, group/peer discussions, handouts, and one-one-tutorials. You will explore a range of drawing materials and processes. Considering the work of other artists will help you to evaluate your own creations. Do you know how to use surface, mark-making, space, composition, scale, unconventional materials, and intentionality? Come along and find out about these exciting concepts related to image making and meaning.
What will I learn?
The aim of the course is to equip you with the confidence and knowledge to experiment with a variety of contemporary drawing media and processes. We will look at a range of drawings from the 1950’s to the present day, realist, abstract, modernist, and post-modernist for inspiration. On completion, you should be able to: recognise the drawing potential of both two and three-dimensional materials; apply the basic rules of composition; make conscious choices in your drawings, understand the relevance of evaluating other contemporary artists’ work and reviewing your own work.
