Wiltshire College & University Centre's student-run restaurants and salons have largely been closed over the last two academic years but are re-opening to the public.

Wiltshire College & University Centre’s student-run restaurants and salons will be re-opening to the public in November.

The College is home to two professional restaurants – The Wessex Restaurant at the Salisbury campus and The White Horse Restaurant at the Trowbridge campus. The Chippenham, Salisbury and Trowbridge campuses are also home to The Aspire Academy of Hair & Beauty.

These restaurants and salons are run by College students under the guidance of highly-trained professionals. They have largely been closed to the public over the last two academic years but will re-open for service after the October half-term.

The Wessex and White Horse restaurants run a weekly lunch service from 12noon to 1pm every Tuesday, offering a delicious freshly-prepared three-course meal for £12.

The Aspire Academy of Hair & Beauty is open to the public from Monday to Friday, with all three sites offering a wide variety of hairdressing, barbering and beauty therapy services without the salon prices.

Steve Lloyd, Deputy Head of Department for Hospitality at the College, said: “We are delighted to be re-opening the restaurants at our Salisbury and Trowbridge campuses. Both sites were extremely popular with local residents prior to having to close our doors due to the pandemic but look forward to welcoming our customers back in the coming weeks.

“Being able to cook food to order for paying customers is a key aspect of students’ development and will best prepare them to start their careers in the industry.

“All of our menu items are, where possible, locally sourced and made from fresh ingredients, including produce from the College’s Lackham campus.”

Chloe Paxton, Deputy Head of Department for Hair & Beauty at the College, added: “Our students are really looking forward to being able to welcome customers back into our salons in Chippenham, Salisbury and Trowbridge. It is a part of their education that they all truly enjoy.

“The Aspire Academy of Hair & Beauty offers a wide range of hair and beauty treatments. They really are the perfect place to have a lovely pampering session without the fees usually associated with salons.

“Any bookings at either our salons or restaurants is a great way to support the future of industries which have been badly affected during the pandemic.”
