College partners with Saab to launch new apprenticeship

Wiltshire College & University Centre is pleased to have partnered with Saab Technologies UK Ltd to launch a new apprenticeship.

The innovative company, which has seen many changes since it was established in 1937, and today serves the global market with world-leading products, services and solutions from military defence to civil security, is looking to recruit two engineering fitter apprentices as it continues to grow its Training and Simulation team to meet increasing customer requirements.

It is also keen to offer new talent the opportunity to help the company achieve its goals, through bespoke training.

UK DTES Support Manager Mark Rowe, said: “We’re really excited about the chance to recruit and meet two new members of the team, who will help us to continue the high standards of project delivery and excellent customer relationship that we have created and fostered for more than 25 years.

“What the apprenticeship scheme offers is a great way to introduce young, motivated people, bringing new skills and ideas that will complement our current workforce.”

The four-year apprenticeship will see the two successful candidates predominantly based in Tilshead, with the chance to travel to support other sites, both domestic and international. As part of their training, which includes four days a week on site, and one day at college, the apprentices will learn about producing components using hand fitting techniques and maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment.

Saab has been working with the College to prepare to take on apprentices.

Katherine said: “The College is a large educator in the local area with a good reputation and so were a natural choice for us as a Wiltshire business.

“The team have been extremely communicative and supportive throughout the whole process, which is very welcome as this is our first opportunity to join the apprenticeship scheme.”
