STAFF from the Construction department at Wiltshire College & University Centre recently welcomed local employer John Williams Heating Services to its Chippenham campus as part of ongoing work to strengthen industry partnerships and enhance curriculum delivery.
John Williams Heating Services has built a strong reputation across the region for its expertise in plumbing and heating services. Owned and operated by husband-and-wife team John and Debbie Williams, the family-run business has developed close links with the College to help support and train apprentices in the plumbing industry.
Celebrating their 25th apprentice with the College this year, Debbie Williams from John Williams Heating Services said: “Apprenticeships are the lifeblood of our business, and we’re proud to play a role in shaping skilled, confident professionals within our community.
“We believe strongly in giving young people meaningful opportunities to grow, learn and thrive. Technical skills and real-world experience are essential in our industry, and we’re passionate about supporting students who want a practical, hands-on route into a rewarding career.”
Employer partnerships play a vital role in curriculum design and development at the College, helping ensure students and apprentices develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required by industry.
During the visit, John and Debbie met with staff from the Construction and the Built Environment department and toured specialist workshops and training facilities at the Chippenham campus.
Discussions focused on ensuring the apprenticeship and full-time programmes continue to reflect current industry standards, site expectations and workforce priorities, helping learners gain practical, up-to-date experience that prepares them for employment.
Steve Gingell, Head of Construction & The Built Environment, said: “Through our collaboration with John Williams Heating Services, the College continues to strengthen its curriculum delivery, ensuring that learners gain up-to-date industry knowledge and the practical skills needed to meet employer expectations.
“Working closely with our industry partners is essential to shaping a future-ready construction workforce – one that not only meets local and national priorities but also drives the sector forward with confidence and innovation.”
Through partnerships with employers such as John Williams Heating Services, the College continues to strengthen progression routes into employment while ensuring students benefit from valuable industry insight and real-world experience.
Debbie Williams added: “This year, we welcomed our 25th apprentice – a milestone that reflects our commitment to developing local talent and investing in the next generation of engineers.”
The success of partnerships with employers such as John Williams Heating Services reflects the growing momentum behind apprenticeships across the region – something the College is continuing to champion through its 150 in 100 campaign.
As the campaign enters its final week, Wiltshire College & University Centre is continuing to call on businesses across Wiltshire and the surrounding region to pledge their support for apprenticeships and skills development. Originally aiming to secure 150 employer pledges in 100 days, the campaign, which comes to an end this Friday has exceeded expectations and is helping create new opportunities for people while supporting businesses to grow their future workforce.
Employers interested in taking on an apprentice, offering industry placements or working more closely with the College are encouraged to get involved before the campaign closes at the end of the week.
