Applying for Halls of Residence and accommodation
All students who have received an offer of a place to study at Wiltshire College, Salisbury via the Admissions Team/UCAS can apply for a room in Halls of Residence accommodation. Our residential accommodation — St Mary’s Halls of Residence
Rooms and kitchen facilities:
St Marys has 66 standard rooms (including designated disabled units), 11 small premium rooms and 3 premium rooms and all are single occupancies. Each room has a single bed, wardrobe, bedside chest of drawers, desk and internet access with an en-suite bathroom providing shower, toilet and wash-basin.
Each corridor of between 6 and 9 rooms share a self-contained kitchen which includes a sink, fridge/freezer, combi oven, toaster, kettle and generous storage space. Students will need to supply their own kitchen utensils, crockery and bedding.
The HE Centre is situated in the historic part of the building and adjacent Chapel. It consists of several multi-use spaces including bar area, large lounge with widescreen TV, snug, games room and computer room. These are the focal points for a programme of student-led events and activities throughout the year.
Students can use the on-site laundry and can access a local gym “Gymies”. If students are unable to access their normal GP they are expected to register with our local GP at St Anne Street Surgery (08444 778700).
Accommodation Off Campus
Students over the age of 18 that require accommodation off campus can contact the Accommodation Team for details of accommodation in the local area. It is the responsibility of parents of under 18s to find suitable accommodation off campus and the College cannot take responsibility.
Deposits and damages
All residential students in Halls are required to pay a £250.00 deposit through the Wiltshire College ‘Online Shop’ to confirm their acceptance of the accommodation offer of a place in Halls of Residence. This includes £220.00 against damages and £30.00 for keys/fobs. Both deposits are returnable at the end of the accommodation contract if there are no attributable damage charges.
Deposits are not returnable at the application stage, a refund of the deposit will only be approved if the student fails to achieve the grades to get on their chosen course.
An inventory of the condition of the room and communal areas is agreed at the beginning of occupancy and this is inspected and agreed by the Accommodation Team at the end of the accommodation contract when the resident vacates the accommodation. If there is no damage the deposit is returned in full. The key deposit is refunded with the room deposit unless the keys have been lost or damaged, resulting in a charge of £15.00 per key/fob.
Students are encouraged to report damages to their rooms and communal areas to a member of the Accommodation Team. The College reserves the right to levy a reasonable cost of repair or replacement of goods in circumstances where the damage is not attributable to normal wear and tear.
All students will be asked to sign a Standing Order form to pay fees on a termly basis. Payments should be made by the due date. Students who find it difficult meeting payment deadlines are encouraged to discuss such problems with the Residential Accommodation Manager.

The college year
Students will be charged for the ‘College year’. This is either 39 or 40 weeks depending on your course. There is no reduction for weeks when a room is left vacant by a student for holidays, study tours, work experience or illness.
The Accommodation Team make every effort to offer residential students their first choice of accommodation. Room transfer are available but they do incur administration and cleaning charges, these requests will normally be considered at the discretion of the Residential Accommodation Manager.
All rooms in the Halls of Residence are single occupancy and are all en-suite.
Accommodation team supervision of students in residential accommodation
The Accommodation Team provide support for residential students 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. This will be based either from the main campus or St Mary’s Accommodation office. In addition to providing pastoral support, the team also coordinate the maintenance of the building, manage fire procedures as well as providing first aid cover.
The Learner Voice at St Mary’s is loud and clear, via a Halls Representative on the Student Union. In conjunction with individual Hall Reps for each cluster and in partnership with the Residential Accommodation Manager, issues are resolved and the social calendar is planned at regular meetings.
All residential students are required to sign their Licence to Occupy which is the residential accommodation contract which is distributed with the formal offer of accommodation. All residential students are subject to the College’s Code of Conduct. Any breaches of the Code of Conduct or Licence to Occupy will be dealt with according to the College Disciplinary Procedure, a summary of which is available in the Student Information Booklet.
