This short course is designed for absolute beginners or for those who know only a few words in Spanish, providing the ideal way to learn conversational Spanish. This 10-week course is equivalent to an A1 Spanish level, covering the basic situations you would encounter as a tourist. It is suitable if you want to learn for fun or if you intend to continue your study. There will be some reading and writing activities.

What will I learn?
The aim of the course is to provide you with basic speaking and listening skills in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere which will increase your confidence to ‘have a go’ when you are abroad.
On completion should be able to understand and participate in simple conversations in everyday situations.
The following topics will be covered during the course:
– Greetings. Introducing yourself, ask and give basic personal information.
– Describe people/family/friends. Professions.
– Free Time/Hobbies. Express preferences. Likes and dislikes.
– Telling your interest in the Hispanic world and why you would like to learn Spanish.
– Talk about habits, frequency, ask/talk about the time, days of the week, daily routine.
– Describe a town/city giving opinions, speaking about weather and ask information to travel around places.
– Order drinks, snacks, meals in a café/restaurant.
– Shop for basic items. Numbers

Assessment is informal, based on your personal targets and the learning outcomes and will be undertaken regularly with you by the course lecturer. There are no final qualifications associated with this course.

You should bring writing materials. Your tutor will ask you to buy a course book which will be discussed at the first session.
