The role of the network cable installer is to install, terminate, test and certify network cable infrastructure components in accordance with national and international industry standards. This network infrastructure will provide the communications backbone for the digital infrastructure ecosystem, enabling all types of digital devices to communicate between each other, internally, nationally and globally. These include computers, servers, smart devices, security equipment, wireless access points, access control, building management systems and lighting systems.

What will I learn?
You will develop the knowledge and practical skills to install, terminate, test and certify network cabling systems that form the backbone of modern digital infrastructure. This includes working with both copper and fibre optic cables, interpreting technical plans, installing network equipment such as cabinets, switches and routers, and carrying out industry-standard testing and fault-finding. You’ll learn how to work safely in a range of environments, from buildings to external sites, while applying health and safety and cyber security principles. Alongside technical expertise, you will build strong problem-solving, communication and customer service skills, enabling you to deliver high-quality network installations that support everything from business systems to high-speed broadband.
Entry Requirements
Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths may need to achieve this level prior to completion of their apprenticeship.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
You will complete a set of assignments in conjunction with online learning resources to develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours. You will be supported by your tutor to prepare for your end-point assessment with regular meetings and progress reviews.
All apprentices will need to document off-the-job training totalling 375 hours over the course of the apprenticeship.
