This qualification aims to provide an understanding of the different types of diabetes and how they can occur, develop awareness of how the onset of Type 2 diabetes can be delayed with lifestyle changes, develop understanding of diabetes diagnosis and initial care, and develop understanding of on-going care and treatment of diabetes to control blood sugar levels.

What will I learn?
The objectives of this qualification are to:
– Give learners working, or intending to work, in healthcare and social care knowledge and understanding of diabetes to support their role in the workplace.
– Enable learners to progress to other qualifications in this subject area, or within the wider area of health and social care.
The course is split into 4 units:
Unit 1: Understand diabetes
Unit 2: Prevention and early intervention of Type 2 diabetes
Unit 3: Understand the initial care of diabetes
Unit 4: Understand the treatment and management of diabetes

Entry Requirements
Learners must be aged 19 years or over as at the start of the academic year (31st August).
Applicants who have not lived in the UK for at least 6 months or do not have British Citizenship will be required to provide evidence of their right to reside in the UK. Applicants must currently reside in a non-devolved area to be eligible for funding.
No qualifications are required.
As part of your programme, you will need to complete an induction, which includes BKSB assessments in Maths and English.

Please be aware: Learners should plan to dedicate at least 2–3 hours per week to study to stay on track with deadlines and successfully complete the course.
This course is delivered purely online with digital content. Upon enrolment Learners are sent login details for our e-assessor system where they will access all course materials including workbooks and questions. Learners will also submit all work via this system which will then be marked by an Assessor and feedback provided.
Due to the nature of these Distance Learning courses, the emphasis is very much on self-directed study.
Learners should be able to take all the information needed to complete the course from the Workbooks but will also receive high level support from their Assessor and the Distance Learning Team.
Each unit will have a set deadline so Learners can plan their study time to fit in with these dates.

Additional Costs and Information
This course is free, however we do have a £130 withdrawal fee if learners do not commence/complete their course within the allotted time/request to withdraw.
Learners can only complete one Distance Learning course at a time and cannot be on another funded course such as an apprenticeship.
