Course Overview

In this course, you will acquire knowledge about various coding languages. It is essential to note that this course’s focus lies in understanding the fundamentals of coding rather than creating actual code. Coding serves as the foundation for developing computer software, including websites, applications, and social media platforms. It functions as a language that instructs computers on tasks to execute. This program caters to individuals seeking an introductory insight into coding. Given the ongoing digital evolution and expansion of the digital sector, this course aims to provide an overview of coding principles and its practical application in software development.

What will I learn?

The course is split into 5 units:

Unit 1: Understand the principles of coding
Unit 2: Understand terminology used in coding
Unit 3: Understand coding design principles
Unit 4: Understand the processes and practice of coding
Unit 5: Understand the importance of communication and project management in coding

Entry Requirements

Learners must be aged 19 years or over at the start of the academic year (31st August).

Applicants who have not lived in the UK for at least 6 months or do not have British Citizenship will be required to provide evidence of their right to reside in the UK. Applicants must currently reside in a non-devolved area to be eligible for funding.

No qualifications are required.

As part of your programme, you will need to complete an induction, which includes BKSB assessments in Maths and English.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

Please be aware: Learners should plan to dedicate at least 2–3 hours per week to study to stay on track with deadlines and successfully complete the course.

This course is delivered purely online with digital content. Upon enrolment Learners are sent login details for our e-assessor system where they will access all course materials including workbooks and questions. Learners will also submit all work via this system which will then be marked by an Assessor and feedback provided.

Due to the nature of these Distance Learning courses, the emphasis is very much on self-directed study.

Learners should be able to take all the information needed to complete the course from the Workbooks but will also receive high level support from their Assessor and the Distance Learning Team.

Each unit will have a set deadline so Learners can plan their study time to fit in with these dates.

Additional Costs and Information

This course is free; however, we do have a £130 withdrawal fee if learners do not commence/complete their course within the allotted time/request to withdraw.

Learners can only complete one Distance Learning course at a time and cannot be on another funded course such as an Apprenticeship.

The allotted time for completion of this course is two to three months.
