Course Overview

If you’re interested men’s Mental Health or you’re looking to go into work in childcare, health care or social care, increasing your professional knowledge or simply looking to raise your own awareness of mental health problems in men, this flexible distance-learning course is designed to suit a broad range of purposes. Thirteen mandatory units provide key information on a range of mental health problems, giving you a foundation of understanding in various mental health illnesses that will support work in the health and care industries with a specific focus on male issues.

This qualification aims to:

– Focus on the study of men’s mental health and a range of mental health problems.
– Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge.

The objectives of this qualification are to:

– Raise awareness of mental health and a range of mental health problems.
– Increase the learners understanding of a range of mental health problems, which could be used to support their role in the workplace or where they may work or interact with individuals with mental health problems.

The course is split into 13 units:

Unit 1: Understanding mental health
Unit 2: Understanding stress
Unit 3: Understanding anxiety
Unit 4: Understanding depression
Unit 5: Understanding phobias
Unit 6: Understanding eating disorders
Unit 7: Understanding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder – ADHD
Unit 8: Understanding Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder – OCD
Unit 9: Understanding Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder – PTSD
Unit 10: Understanding dementia
Unit 11: Understanding postnatal depression
Unit 12: Understanding bipolar disorder
Unit 13: Understanding schizophrenia
Learners must be aged 19 years or over at the start of the academic year (31st August).

Applicants who have not lived in the UK for at least 6 months or do not have British Citizenship will be required to provide evidence of their right to reside in the UK. Applicants must currently reside in a non-devolved area to be eligible for funding.
No qualifications are required.
This course is delivered purely online with digital content. Upon enrolment Learners are sent login details for our e-assessor system where they will access all course materials including workbooks and questions. Learners will also submit all work via this system which will then be marked by an Assessor and feedback provided.

Due to the nature of these Distance Learning courses, the emphasis is very much on self-directed study.

Learners should be able to take all the information needed to complete the course from the Workbooks but will also receive high level support from their Assessor and the Distance Learning Team.

Each unit will have a set deadline, which is usually 2 weeks, so Learners can plan their study time to fit in with these dates.
Learners can only complete one Distance Learning course at a time and cannot be on another funded course such as an Apprenticeship.

Learners who have already completed the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems course won’t be able to enrol on this course, as the units are the same between the two courses. The difference is that the assessments are structured differently in each, to emphasise different aspects of Mental Health.

The allotted time for completion of this course is six months.
