Course Overview

The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning has been designed to provide you with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in an education environment. You will be supporting their educational development, positive behaviour, additional needs, communication and professional relationships.

This course is aimed at people working in roles that support pupil’s learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.

This course contains 11 mandatory units that you will need to complete. These units will give you an understanding of children and young people’s development and incorporating the safeguarding and well-being of children and young people.

You will also learn how to support positive behaviour in learning environments, and how to maintain professional relationships with children and young people. You will also be working with staff to promote an effective learning environment for children and young people.

You will gain a further understanding of the full range of topics upon application to the course when you meet with your assessor who will be marking your work.
There are no entry requirements however you will need to support maths, English and IT lessons. We recommend you have achieved at GCSE Grade C or 4 in maths and English and are confident you are IT literate.
You will need to be working, or on a practical placement, in a setting for the duration of the course because you need to show competence in both skills and knowledge.

All units are assessed by a designated assessor using a range of methods, including direct observations in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence and written assignments.
All applicants will be assessed as funding may be available to cover the cost of the course.

There are no additional costs or resources required for this qualification however learners may wish to purchase books to support their learning. The Learning Resource Centres in each of our Chippenham, Trowbridge and Salisbury campuses have a wide range of books and resources that learners can access.

The duration of this course is 1 year but can be completed quicker should learners wish.
