Course Overview

The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning has been designed to provide you with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s positive behaviour and communication and professional relationships.

This course is aimed at people working in roles that support pupil’s learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.

There are 11 mandatory units in this qualification, made up of knowledge and skills. Skills will be observed by your assessor in the school or college you are working or volunteering in.

Progression from this course is on to the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
Before you enrol you will be asked to complete an Initial Assessment. This helps us to see how well you can study on your own and manage your time to meet deadlines. It also checks your English writing, like constructing full sentences, writing in paragraphs and giving clear answers.

If we feel you need more practice, we can show you other courses to help you get ready.

You will need to be working or volunteering in a school or college for the duration of the course because you need to show competence in both skills and knowledge. You should inform your headteacher or principle that you are enrolling on this course and confirm with them that your assessor will be able to visit to observe. You will not be able to complete the qualification without direct observation by your assessor.

You will need a valid DBS certificate to work or volunteer in a school or college.

All units are assessed by a designated assessor using a range of methods, including direct observations in the workplace and written assignments.
There is no college attendance for this course. Learning will take place in your own time, so you should be able to study independently using the Internet.
Your assessor will be available to support you via email, phone and Teams, they will provide you with resources to support your learning, mark your work and give you feedback.

Learners will use an e-portfolio for the duration of their course. Access to a lap-top, computer or other device with Internet, camera and audio is required. Learners will not be able to complete this course on a phone or small tablet.

There are 11 units to complete across the 12-month duration of the course. You will need to study and submit work during school holidays to keep on track with your course.
This course is free for learners that meet certain criteria which will be assessed as part of the enrolment process. If you are not eligible for funding for this course, the cost is £675.

You can enrol on this course at any time during the academic year.

Once enrolled, there is a £130 withdrawal fee for the following:
– Learners do not submit their first unit by the deadline given.
– Learners do not complete their course in the 6-month allocated time.
– Learners request to withdraw.
