The course is taught one day a week from 9am to 4.30pm at the Trowbridge campus. In addition to the study day, you need to allow at least 1-1.5 days for independent study. Towards the end of year 1 and throughout year 2 you should allow for at least one additional day for placement work and supervision. Throughout this training, there will be a continued emphasis on the development of appropriate skills for a deepening level of work. The level of work on this course is concerned with a person’s recurrent difficulties in terms of patterns in themselves, their personal history and ways of relating. Theoretical and experiential seminars, skills workshops, group process time, group supervision and tutorials will be used to present ideas, practise skills and support personal development. Assessment is by a range of methods, including self and peer-group assessment and will be used to develop ‘good enough’ competence at this level of work. Other methods include personal journals, audio and video work and written assignments including an essay and case studies. As a student at Wiltshire College you will have a tutor with whom you can discuss your academic progress. Students will meet with their tutor as a group, and meet 1 to 1 with their personal tutors at least termly. This helps ensure you make good progress towards your qualification, and lets you discuss issues relating to your academic performance.
