The duration of an advanced apprenticeship in Plumbing and Heating is 48 months, however this can be reduced based on prior experience. This level 3 course requires you to attend college for one day per week during term time. There will be additional time spent in college for ACS gas assessments and end point assessments. The first 36 months will focus on the core elements of the qualification listed above within the “What will I learn” and delivered at 1 of our 3 campuses (Trowbridge, Salisbury and Chippenham). The remaining 12 months will be spent learning about your optional unit you will choose from the following:
Domestic (Natural Gas) Understand and implement the principles of selection, installation, testing, commissioning, servicing and maintenance techniques on domestic natural gas pipework systems and appliances. This can be delivered at our Salisbury and Trowbridge campus.
Environmental Technologies Understand and implement the principles of selection, installation, testing, commissioning, servicing and maintenance techniques on solar thermal, heat pumps and water recycling systems. Campus to be confirmed.
The option chosen should reflect the types of work your employer is engaged in to give you access to the relevant training and assessment in the workplace. This will need to be agreed at the beginning of your apprenticeship term. An end point assessment (EPA) must be taken to achieve your qualification. This will include a practical assessment, professional discussion and knowledge exam. An external assessor will carry these assessments out. These assessments occur up to 3 months after all college studies and on-site assessments are complete. End point assessment will require you to attend college for an additional 4 days.
