Course Overview

If you’re interested in a career behind the camera, this is the course for you. Our Level 3 qualification in TV and Film is an A-Level equivalent course that explores the creative and technical aspects of video production, giving you the skills to understand, produce and publish a variety of video products. Our facilities include a wide range of high-spec, specialist single-camera equipment and accessories, bespoke TV and green screen studios and dedicated PCs and iMacs for editing and special-effects production. As part of the course, you’ll also work with the wider creative arts department to build sets, record and stream live music and work with performers to give you an immersive and realistic experience of producing your own content.

More information

You will explore cinematography, camera techniques, advanced editing sessions and special effects development. You’ll also have the opportunity to build a range of pre-production, production and theoretical skills which will build a foundation for you to choose a specialist route into university or the industry.

You’ll hone your camera skills by using DSLRs and Canon XA35s as well as a range of equipment such as gimbles, tracks and drones.

With the professional techniques acquired through lectures and tutorials, you will develop a portfolio reflecting your personal strengths in preparation for progression onto university. You’ll be able to enhance this portfolio through the work we do with real clients where you participate in meaningful ‘live’ projects.

We also provide a range of exciting enrichment opportunities, including trips to the Harry Potter Studio Tour, the BBC and a biennial international trip.
4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English and Maths, or equivalent.

A successful interview.
Following tutor-led sessions, much of the practical work will be carried out during the college day. This may include non-timetabled sessions when you are working unsupervised to further your skills.

In both years of the course, you will study core units developing your skills. You will then be asked to undertake a major production of your own devising. This final project is used to award the overall grade for the year. There are no external exams.

An Industry Placement is a fundamental part of this course. An Industry Placement gives you the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience for your future. You will be supported throughout your placement by our dedicated Work Placement Team.
