As well as time spent in college, you will typically need to spend an additional 20 hours on independent study each week.

Purpose and aim of the Access to HE Diploma:
The Access to HE Diploma is intended to prepare people without traditional entry qualifications for degree level study at university. It may also be used by people wishing to make a career change or who have been out of formal education for a significant time to gain the knowledge, skills and confidence required for direct progression to employment or further study.

The Access to HE Diploma is regulated by QAA and widely recognised as a progression route by universities across the UK.
The Access to HE course can be funded through different methods. You may be eligible for the course free of charge, personally fund the course, or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Access to HE is the only course where the student loan does not have to be repaid as long as the learner completes their undergraduate degree. More information on the Advanced Learner Loan can be found at www.gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan.

In order to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan, you will need the following documentation: proof of identity in the form of a passport or birth certificate and your National Insurance Number.

During the course you will develop your knowledge in your chosen subject area whilst also improving your study skills such as research and essay writing, preparing you for the requirements of higher education study. You’ll be well supported throughout the course by a personal tutor and through regular 1:1 tutorials. You need to be able to commit to at least 30 hours of study per week (in college and independently) and for this reason we recommend that you should work (whether paid or voluntary) for no more than 15 hours per week.
