Early Years Educators are highly trained professionals who play a key role in ensuring that young children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. They work in a range of settings including full day care, children’s centres, pre-schools, reception classes and as childminders. They may either be working on their own or supervising others to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements set by Government for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old.

What will I learn?
Through the 13 Duties for this apprenticeship you will learn and develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours of a Level 3 Early Years Educator.
Duty 1 Support children’s learning and development through applying knowledge of pedagogy and the observation, assessment, and planning cycle.
Duty 2 Develop secure and supportive relationships with children and families as the key person for children in their care, advocating for those children.
Duty 3 Provide respectful and responsive physical and emotional care to children, promoting health and wellbeing.
Duty 4 Work with key individuals in children’s lives (for example parents, families, and carers) to improve all children’s outcomes and wellbeing.
Duty 5 Work in partnership with other organisations and agencies to support children’s learning, development, health and wellbeing.
Duty 6 Support the implementation of change to improve practice.
Duty 7 Initiate and engage in continuous professional development, underpinned by reflective practice.
Duty 8 Ensure compliance with child protection and safeguarding legislation, policies, and procedures.
Duty 9 Work in ways that promote and support equality, diversity, and the inclusion of all children, respecting their social and cultural context.

Entry Requirements
The rules surrounding the achievement of maths and English has recently changed.
A Level 2 qualification is GCSE grade C/4, Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent.
A Level 1 qualification is GCSE grade D-G/3-1, Functional Skills Level 1 or equivalent.
For apprentices under 19 years of age on enrolment.
You must achieve a Level 2 qualification in maths and English before you can complete your apprenticeship.
For apprentices over the age of 19 years of age on enrolment you and your employer can decided whether they wish for you to enrol on maths and English. If you decide you do, you must engage fully with your tutor and sit the assessments, but you are not required to pass.
Maths and English is delivered either in the learners workplace, via Teams or on a one to one basis in one of our three main campuses, Chippenham, Trowbridge and Salisbury.
You must have secured a position with an employer and be ready to start working with them before you can begin your apprenticeship course.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications
This is a Standards only apprenticeship, there is no mandatory Diploma. On completion of your End Point Assessment you will achieve the Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship.
Your assessor will assess your knowledge, skills and behaviours using a range of methods including direct observations in the workplace, professional discussions and written assignments. These will contribute to your End Point Assessment which will consist of an observation of your practice in the workplace, followed by questions, and a professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.

Additional Costs and Information
There are no additional costs or resources required for this qualification however learners may wish to purchase books to support their learning. The Learning Resource Centres in each of our Chippenham, Trowbridge and Salisbury campuses have a wide range of books and resources that learners can access.
Regular access to a lap-top or computer is essential as you will record your learning on an e-portfolio. A phone or small tablet will not be suitable due to the written work and tasks that you will be set.
The duration of this course is 18 months but can be completed quicker should learners wish.
