Celebrating employers backing our T Level students

WILTSHIRE College & University Centre has wrapped up its BIG Placement Pledge campaign by shining a light on the vital role employers play in supporting T Level students across the region.

Launched in response to a significant rise in demand for T Levels this year, the campaign showcased the value of industry placements for both learners and employers – and celebrated the many organisations already offering high-quality opportunities.

Ann Simpson, Work Placement Team Leader at the College, said: “The campaign has shone a spotlight on the fantastic work our employer partners already do. We’ve heard from organisations who have been supporting T Level students for several years, as well as welcoming new interest from employers looking to get involved. What’s clear is the growing recognition of the value these placements bring to workplaces of all sizes.”

To meet the rising demand from both students and employers, the Work Placement Team has also expanded from five to eight staff this year, strengthening its ability to support growing interest in T Level industry placements.

Throughout the campaign, we’ve shared stories from employers already successfully offering our learners fantastic T Level placements. Here are a few of them:

  • Mitie has been hosting Business T Level students at its MOD Corsham site, with Account Director Rich Garland emphasising the fresh ideas and enthusiasm learners bring to the team.
  • Wiltshire Council has provided placements across a wide range of departments, helping students build confidence and explore the breadth of careers available in local government. Apprenticeships and Early Careers Lead Kathryn Partington said students add real value and are increasingly sought after by managers.
  • Apsley Precision Engineering, near Salisbury, has integrated T Level Engineering students into its workshop for several years, using placements as a route to develop and recruit future talent.

The campaign also highlighted student success, including our former Engineering learner Skye Charters, who progressed from a T Level placement at MPD Pumps into a full-time role and now helps supervise another T Level student. Her story reflects the long-term impact placements can have on both learners and employers.

Alongside its established partners, we’re also pleased to have welcomed engagement from several new employers during the campaign – including Babcock International, who visited the Chippenham campus, explored future collaboration and confirmed plans to support Engineering students through dedicated T Level placements.

“Our aim is to ensure every T Level student can access a high-quality industry placement,” said Ann. “We’re encouraged by the continued support from existing partners and the growing interest from new employers who want to be part of developing the next generation of skilled professionals.”

“THE BIG Placement Pledge has been a real success in bringing employers and education closer together,” Ann added. “It has helped us showcase the impact of T Level placements, celebrate the employers already doing brilliant work, and spark new interest from organisations who want to support young people. We’re ending the campaign with real momentum and a strong network for our students’ future success.”
