STUDENTS from across Wiltshire College & University Centre were honoured in an uplifting and emotional celebration of talent at this year’s student awards.
Held at the Trowbridge Civic Centre on Thursday 26 June, the event brought together more than 100 guests to celebrate learners from every corner of the College.
From Creative Arts and Engineering to Animal Care, Construction and ESOL, the evening recognised 21 students for their outstanding achievement, dedication and personal progress.
College Principal and Chief Executive Iain Hatt opened the evening with a message of celebration and encouragement.
“You could feel the pride in the room – from the students, their families, and everyone who’s been part of their journey. This is a milestone moment. Not just for the winners, but for everyone here. It’s a chance to reflect on what they’ve achieved and take that next step with confidence.”
The awards were presented by multiple Paralympic medallist and local champion Stephanie Millward MBE, who described the evening as “incredible” and said it has been a joy to meet students and hear their stories.
“I hope they believe in themselves and go on to become the stars they want to be,” she said.

Her presence on the night was electric. Arriving with her Paralympic gold medal and torch, Stephanie brought energy, warmth and inspiration to the room. It was an evening full of celebration, pride and community spirit. Twinkling lights, colourful balloons and live student music added to the sense of occasion, while a British Sign Language interpreter helped make the event welcoming for all.
Among those recognised was 17-year-old, Eliza Brindle, from Frome, who studies at the Trowbridge campus and was named Creative Arts Student of the Year. “I didn’t realise how big this event was – it’s awesome. I love making art and it’s been really amazing studying here, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else with my time.”
Winning Media & Games Student of the Year, Charlie Farmer, 16, from Melksham studies at the Chippenham campus and said that the College has given him the space to explore his creative ambitions. “College has been amazing,” he said. “We’ve had the freedom to be ourselves and explore what we love. I’m hoping one day to see my name in the credits.”
With an apprenticeship lined up, 18-year-old Ella Gould, who lives and studies in Chippenham, was recognised as Engineering Student of the Year. She completed her college placement with her future employer and is looking forward to what’s next. “I’ve worked hard, and this year’s been a turning point for me. It’s really motivating to be recognised like this.”
Sports & Leisure Student of the Year Calan Gilmour, 17, from Chippenham, is a keen athlete and swim coach whose hearing loss has never stood in the way of his passions. Studying at the Lackham campus, he said: “I love sport, and I get to study it, play it and teach it. College has made that possible.”
Several award winners will also be featured in interviews on BBC Wiltshire through the week, sharing more about their college experience and future ambitions on the Breakfast Show and BBC Sounds.
