WILTSHIRE College & University Centre is making a return to the Bath & West Show for the first time in two years to spread the word about its growing apprenticeships offer.
The college will be among the more than 500 exhibitors to take a stand at the 173-year-old event’s showground near Shepton Mallet on May 29 to 31, where staff will be on hand to chat to visitors about its variety of courses.
The three-day show, which attracts more than 100,000 visitors, features extensive livestock and equine competitions, with over 4,000 animals participating, including cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, and horses.
The agricultural slant means much of the conversation staff have will be about relevant courses at the college’s Lackham campus.
“The focus will be on apprenticeships at Lackham, certainly,” said stand organiser and Business Relationship Manager, Melvyn Crook. “We have so much to offer those who want to get into farming, horticulture, animal care and agricultural engineering.
“But we’ll also be talking about the breadth of courses at all of our campuses where we’ve invested significant amounts into new facilities. We can talk about Tech Trowbridge, our new Health Zone at Salisbury, our automotive departments at Chippenham and Trowbridge and the Wiltshire Business School at Lackham.”
He said staff will also be promoting T Level courses at all of its campuses. “They are an exciting new development for us because they mix classroom learning will real-world placements,” said Melvyn. “There are quite a few courses that are agriculture-related but we’ll be talking everything across the board.”
The college works with more than 1,000 employers on apprenticeships across Wiltshire and beyond and will be inviting a group to the show for a roundtable discussion about apprenticeships.
“We want to hear their views about how we can improve our offer even further,” said Melvyn.
The Wiltshire College & University Centre stand will be near the cattle lines on all three days of the show. “We’re looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and lots of new ones,” said Melvyn. “We’ll have some giveaways and competitions to test our visitors. It’s a really exciting time for the college with so much innovation and we are looking forward to sharing it.”
