WILTSHIRE College & University Centre is marking Green Skills Careers Week by highlighting its partnership with Chippenham-based heating technology company Luthmore, which will soon celebrate having trained 100 installers at the College’s Green Skills Innovation Centre at Lackham.
Since June 2026, Luthmore has been using the centre to deliver training on its flagship product ,the Luthmore One, a battery-enabled electric combi boiler designed to provide a zero-emission heating and hot water solution for homes that cannot accommodate other technologies.
The partnership began following an introduction by Chippenham MP Sarah Gibson, who recognised an opportunity for the two organisations to work together after visiting Luthmore and the College’s facilities.
At the time, Luthmore was looking for a suitable space to expand its training programme and reach more installers.
Roy Harris, Head of Products at Luthmore, explained: “We came and saw the facility and all of the training pods, and it was exactly what we were looking for at the time to scale up our training programme and offer it to a broader range of installers.”
Since moving into the centre, Luthmore has welcomed installers for training from across the country, with positive feedback from all those attending.
The location has also been a benefit, providing a quieter setting away from the company’s busy factory.
“The location is ideal, with plenty of parking and good access. The installers also like coming onto the farm. It’s a beautiful green location, so it fits with what we’re doing,” said Harris.
Peter Greenbank, Training and Commissioning Engineer at Luthmore, highlighted how having access to the facilities has helped the company deliver its training.
“It’s enabled us to get out of our very busy factory, but it has also allowed us to sit alongside other new technologies and be viewed as a really viable alternative to heat pumps and hot water cylinders.”
Being based at Lackham means Luthmore delivers its training alongside other technologies, including air source heat pumps and solar, all housed within the College’s Green Skills Innovation Centre.
Opening earlier this year, the £500,000 centre provides specialist facilities for renewable energy training, helping businesses and individuals gain practical experience with different technologies.
The partnership with Luthmore is just one example of how local businesses are making use of the College’s investment in green skills, with dozens of installers already benefiting from the training facilities.
As Green Skills Careers Week draws attention to careers and training opportunities across the sector, the College continues to work with businesses to support the skills needed for a changing industry.
