STUDENTS and staff at Wiltshire College & University Centre were treated to an unexpected festive visitor last week, as the Grinch appeared on site for a light-hearted filming project.
Dressed in full costume, the well-known Christmas character roamed the Salisbury campus, surprising passers-by, posing for photos and spreading laughter.
The Grinch was brought to life by Izzy Barnett, 17, from Marlborough, who is studying Performing and Production Arts Level 3 at our Salisbury campus. For Izzy, the filming offered a chance to put her course learning into practice.
“I relied heavily on improvisation and was able to build small scenes myself,” she said. “Because I wasn’t speaking, I used expressive body language to show how the Grinch was feeling.”
She said she was keen to get involved in the festive project for the opportunity to have fun with a well-known character – and to make people smile.
“I thought it would be funny to impersonate someone that creates so much chaos and mischief, as well as trying to make everyone feel more in the Christmas spirit,” she said. “I enjoy making people laugh and it was fun to be able to create my own version of a well-known character.”
As the Grinch made his way around campus, the response from students and staff was overwhelmingly positive, with laughter, waves and plenty of photo opportunities along the way.
The experience also forms part of Izzy’s wider ambitions within the performing arts, as she looks ahead to continuing her studies after college.
“After this year I’m planning on attending university to study Acting, so I can continue my passion for performing and hopefully turn it into a career,” she said. “In the meantime, I have upcoming shows within my course, including my final major project, which will be a fully scripted play.”
