Free shuttle bus is just the ticket for students

A FREE shuttle bus has been launched by Wiltshire College & University Centre to ferry students between its Chippenham and Lackham campuses.

The electric bus makes two runs each morning starting at 7.45am and 8.30am from Chippenham and calls at Chippenham Railway Station en-route. It does the journey in reverse each day at 4.30pm.

It means motorsport students who are living in residential accommodation at Lackham but are studying at Chippenham will be able to travel smoothly and safely, as will students from Chippenham studying at the Wiltshire Business School or those who are studying agricultural, horticultural, animal or land based courses at Lackham.

“I’m really pleased we are making the investment to put this service on because we are always trying to improve the student experience and this will make their journey into college so much easier,” said Executive Director Chris Thompson.

He said ensuring the bus calls at the railway station will also make it easier for students travelling in from Bath and Swindon to get to Lackham. “Thanks to the shuttle bus, students from Bath and Swindon wanting to study any of our Lackham courses, including animal care, equestrian or agricultural courses, can just get the train into Chippenham and the bus will be waiting outside.

“We want to make the college as accessible as possible to everybody, so students can get the course and the subject content that they want on their doorstep – and this free service, which will also have a low carbon footprint, is a massive step forward.”
