Course Overview

If you see yourself jet-setting around the world as an air steward, planning exciting tours, managing a luxury hotel or organising bespoke events, this course could be the perfect step towards your career. Tourism is one of the biggest industries worldwide, with a diverse range of exciting careers. Our Level 3 course in Travel and Tourism will give you an insight into the travel industry, both in the UK and overseas. You’ll be taught by experienced tutors, gaining an invaluable insight into your future. You’ll take part in trips and tours to enrich your learning and give you a vibrant taste of life in the industry. Past trips have included visits to cabin crew training facilities, theme parks and UK and European tourist destinations. In the second year of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for our overseas work experience, giving you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gain work experience abroad, develop new skills, gain vital international experience and boost your employability.

Year 1 you will complete Level 3 Introductory Diploma to Travel and Tourism
Year 2 you can progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism

What will I learn?

Get ready to explore the exciting and fast-moving world of Travel and Tourism! You will discover how the industry operates in the UK and around the world, exploring areas such as destinations, visitor attractions, marketing, events, responsible tourism, heritage tourism and the different organisations that make the industry work. You will investigate real destinations and businesses, take part in practical and interactive activities, work on industry-style projects and develop your understanding of current trends and challenges affecting tourism. Along the way, you will build valuable skills in communication, teamwork, research, organisation, problem-solving and customer service, preparing you for university, an apprenticeship or an exciting career within the travel and tourism industry.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English and Maths, or equivalent. Or at least a Merit in a related subject at Level 2, and
GCSE Grade 4 or above in English and Maths, or equivalent.

A successful interview.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

An industry placement is a fundamental part of this course, and you will be expected to complete one as part of your studies. We will support you to do this.

Year 1 = Level 3 Introductory Diploma in Travel and Tourism
Year 2 = Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism

Your final qualification will be a NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism.

You will study through a varied and engaging mix of classroom learning, practical activities and real-world travel and tourism projects. Lessons will include group challenges, presentations, destination research, case studies, role plays and opportunities to investigate real travel and tourism organisations. Where possible, learning will be brought to life through educational visits, guest speakers and industry-related experiences, helping you connect what you learn in the classroom with the exciting world of travel and tourism. You will also develop important skills in communication, teamwork, organisation, research, problem-solving and independent learning.

Additional Costs and Information

Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to take part in a range of optional trips, visits, exhibitions and industry experiences. While these are not compulsory, we strongly encourage participation as they provide an excellent opportunity to develop and broaden your knowledge of travel and tourism, experience the industry first-hand and gain valuable insight into different organisations, destinations and career opportunities. Trips may include day visits as well as an optional residential experience. The approximate total cost of trips and visits is £500 per year, although this will vary depending on the opportunities available.
