Teaching Assistants work in Primary, Special and Secondary education across all age ranges encompassing special educational needs and emotional vulnerabilities. The primary role of the Teaching Assistant is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress. Promoting self-belief, social inclusion and a high self-esteem play an integral part to pupils well-being; ensuring pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing, safe environment. It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum. They are good role models, act with honesty and integrity, take part in team meetings; contribute to planning and class activities. Promoting Fundamental British Values through spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and positive behaviours are crucial in contributing to improved pupil progress and development.

What will I learn?
This apprenticeship is made up of the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard.
The Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard is made up of Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours. These are assessed at the end of the Apprenticeship in an End Point Assessment and cover topics such as.
• Promoting diversity, inclusion, equality and acceptance of all learners in line with the organisations policies, including by challenging stereotyped views, bullying or harassment
• Implementing safeguarding policies and safe practices, including online safety, including maintaining confidentiality
• Working in partnership with other professionals and parents/carers
• Reflecting on own practice and identifying appropriate professional development opportunities with the support of colleagues
• Understanding the specific needs of learners and using strategies to support them to achieve their learning goals
• Promoting engagement and teaching learning behaviours to support the development of independent learners
• Establishing positive relationships with learners
• Promoting positive behaviours, consistently applying the school’s behaviour policy.
• Supporting the social, emotional, mental health, wellbeing and personal care of all learners in line with organisational policy and procedures
• Delivering individual and small group teaching within clearly defined/planned parameters in partnership with the teacher and other professionals
• Contributing to assessment and planning by supporting the monitoring, recording, and reporting of learner outcomes and participation, as agreed with the teacher
• Supporting the development of a stimulating and safe learning environment by contributing to the selection and preparation of teaching resources that meet the diverse needs and interests of learners
• Supporting or leading enrichment activities, for example visits, out of school activities and in school clubs.
There is no college attendance for this apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements
Before enrolment all applicants will have an informal interview where we will outline the commitment, engagement and study requirements of the apprenticeship, and the resources and support available from the college. Applicants will have the opportunity to discuss their learning needs and to ask any questions.
Apprentices aged 19+ at enrolment are no longer required to achieve Level 2 maths and English (GCSE Grade C/4, Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent) in order to achieve their apprenticeship. If you do not hold maths and English qualifications at Level 2, you and your employer will have the option to opt in or out of achieving these alongside your apprenticeship.
For apprentices under 19 years on enrolment, it is mandatory for them to hold a Level 2 qualification in both maths and English in order to complete the apprenticeship.

Apprentices will be assessed and prepared for the Apprenticeship End Point Assessment by their assessor through a range of methods, including written assignments, direct observation in the workplace, professional discussions, creative tasks and the preparation of a portfolio of evidence which will be used in the End Point Assessment.
The End Point Assessment is the final assessment an apprentice undertakes to complete their apprenticeship and is carried out by an independent assessor.
On successful completion of the End Point Assessment the apprentice will be awarded the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship.
Apprentices must record a minimum of 370 hours of learning and development, this is called ‘Off the Job Training’, which must take place during your paid working hours. This can include work shadowing, training, workshops, online learning, mentoring, time for assignment writing or revision. In fact, any learning and development that supports learning on the apprenticeship can be recorded.

Additional Costs and Information
Learners will use an e-portfolio for the duration of their course. Access to a lap-top, computer or other device with Internet, camera and audio is required. Learners will not be able to complete this course on a phone or small tablet due to the different types of assessments that must be completed.
