Course Overview

This is a 2 year programme aimed at students who have an interest in Criminology. Over the duration of the programme you will study a range of units which will provide a broad understanding of this complex and interesting topic. You will get the opportunity to study specialist units which will help determine which direction to pursue in the future. The course is equivalent to 3 A Levels as, as such carries the same UCAS points.

In year one, you will complete units in the following:
– Citizenship & Diversity
– Behaviour & Discipline
– Physical Prep, Health & Wellbeing
– Teamwork, Leadership & Communication in the UPS
– Introduction to Criminology
– Criminal Investigation Procedures and Practice

Year two units will include:
– Global Affairs, the Media and the UPS
– Government & Protective Services
– Planning for and Responding to Emergency Incidents
– Sociological Perspectives
– Custodial Care
– Police Powers & the Law
– Research Skills in the UPS
4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English and Maths, or equivalent. Or at least a Merit in a related subject at Level 2 and GCSE Grade 4 or above in English and Maths, or equivalent.
You will learn and be assessed in a variety of ways including formal reports, essays, and presentations. You will also have 2 externally set and marked assessments.

You will be expected to study at home and in college and will be required to complete a number of assignments with set deadlines.

Your final qualification will be a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Protective Services.
You may be expected to join in course trips to other organisations and exhibitions as required, and this may involve some costs towards travel and entry fees.
