Course Overview

Are you an empathetic person who loves helping others? Do you like a challenge? If so, a career in health and social care may be the right career for you. Our Level 2 Health and Social Care course will give you the opportunity to gain a broad understanding of the sector to set you up for future studies. You’ll become familiar with underpinning care values, different life stages, and how to support individuals across different age groups. You will be supported to progress to a more specialised qualification at Level 3. This could be a vocational or academic course, an apprenticeship, or qualification in other sectors.

More information

The course is built on two core mandatory exam units as well as a choice of specialist units. You’ll learn about factors that affect individuals’ lifestyle choices and their health, as well as effective communication skills that can be transferred to other sectors.

The Extended Certificate also includes further specialist units, for example Social Influences, Human Body Systems and a unit linked to your practical work experience.
4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including English and Maths, or equivalent.
A successful interview.
All successful applicants will be screened to a fitness to practise screening and subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
You will have English, maths, theory, practical and self-directed study sessions as part of your timetable.

You will take two external exams. All other units will be assessed internally, through assignments, presentations, written work, projects, posters and leaflets.
You will need to purchase a placement T-shirt for approximately £14.50.

Trips are an important part of the course and you will be required to contribute towards the cost of them.
