The transitional programme in Engineering is a 1-year programme developed to provide basic engineering principles with in Manufacturing technologies and Electronics. The course content meets the needs of industry and prepares you for work. The programme is designed to introduce the wide application of manufacturing technologies or Electronics within engineering. This allows learners to gain an interest into engineering, enhance their GCSE and gain work experience to reflect on the engineering industry. This would allow learners to progress to T Level Engineering. The programme is designed to incorporate classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience in an industrial placement.

What will I learn?
The programme consists of a technical qualification including core specialism units, alongside an industry placement within the pathway specialism. The core content focuses on knowledge and understanding of business contexts, concepts, theories, principles, and core skills relevant to the engineering industry.
The Transition programmes consits of 2 specialisms outlined below offered at both Chippenham and Salisbury campuses:

These units will support your theoretical knowledge behind engineering to understand the duties and compliances required by engineers. The industry experience will allow you to reflect upon the importance of theoretical knowledge delivered and gain further skills within your specialist area. This will allow you to network with potential employers, provide you with work experience, prepare your CV, preparation for interviews, increasing confidence, and potentially secure you a job once completed.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications
The City and Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Engineering is assessed through an externally set and marked examination, a synoptic assignment, and a substantial practical employer-set project. Further assignments may be required to provide learner competence of evidence through the year.

You may be expected to:
· Purchase PPE safety equipment such as workshop overalls, and steel toe-capped boots to access the engineering workshop facilities.
· Join in course trips to other organisations and exhibitions as required, and this may involve some costs towards travel and entry fees.
