Course Overview

If you’re committed to forging a career in agriculture, this course puts you in a strong position to fulfil your ambitions. Based at our unrivalled Lackham campus, you will have daily access to an incredible range of industry-level facilities and resources and a wealth of expertise from our highly experienced tutors. The campus is home to several working farms and land-based engineering workshops, a fleet of new tractors and a full range of industry equipment and machinery, enabling you to develop real industry experience through hands-on learning. You will combine academic study with practical activities and routine duties to build your confidence, develop your knowledge and get set for a rewarding career in agriculture.

On this course you’ll gain knowledge and skills in growing crops, working with livestock, driving tractors and using other agricultural machinery. The College’s farm enterprises include sheep, dairy, pigs, beef and arable cropping, and as an agriculture student you will be involved in them all. You’ll also have the opportunity to specialise and develop your skills throughout the course, tailoring your learning to your personal ambitions.
• 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above including English, maths and science (or equivalent).
• A positive and responsible attitude towards working within the agricultural sector.
• An interview, if required.
You will be assessed through a combination of written, practical and industry-based assessments.

An industry placement is a fundamental part of the course and gives you the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience for the future. You will be supported throughout your placement by our dedicated Work Placement Team.

The final accredited qualification is a City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Agriculture.
You will be required to supply your own protective clothing (overalls, gloves, safety wellington boots or steel toe-capped work boots). This clothing must be worn during all practical sessions and is available to purchase from the online College shop.
