Course Overview

If you are interested in Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering, then this course will give you opportunity to have hands on experience in both areas. Based at our unrivalled Lackham campus, you will have access to an incredible range of industry-level facilities and resources and a wealth of expertise from our highly experienced tutors. The campus is home to several working farms and land-based engineering workshops, a fleet of new tractors and a full range of industry equipment and machinery, enabling you to develop real industry experience through hands-on learning. You will combine academic study with practical activities and routine duties to build your confidence, develop your knowledge and get set for a rewarding career in agriculture or engineering.

On this course you’ll gain knowledge and skills in the Land Based Sector, take part in work experience on the farm & wider estate, managing livestock, estate & workshop skills, and learning about Land Based Agricultural Machinery. The College’s farm enterprises include sheep, dairy, pigs, beef, and as a student you will have the opportunity to be involved in them all. You will also develop your knowledge, skills & behaviours, in a nurturing and supportive environment, to work with others, how to be organised and to develop a personal plan for your next steps.
Usual entry requirements are 4 GCSEs at Grade 1 or 2, including English and Maths, or equivalent.
Entry is determined on an individualised basis and a successful interview.
You will be assessed by a combination of written assignments, workbooks, class exercises and practical assessments. You will also be expected to complete a suitable work placement.

The final qualification on successful completion of the course is Level 1 BTEC Award, Certificate or Diploma Introductory to Land based (Subject to Initial assessment).
Practical clothing must be worn during all practical sessions and is available to purchase from the online College shop. You will also need to supply your own personal protective equipment (Steel Toe Cap Boots and Overalls).

In addition, there will be some costs for trips and visits to shows, these are an important aspect of the programme, enabling you to discover the diverse range of career opportunities and organisations within the sector.
