Course Overview

This course provides a practical introduction to working with young children. You will explore child development, play, health and safety, and ways to support learning through activities. The course develops key skills such as communication, organisation, and problem-solving, alongside essential English and maths. Through assignments and a portfolio of evidence, you will build confidence and knowledge to progress onto higher-level childcare qualifications, an apprenticeship, or employment in the early years sector.

What will I learn?

You will study a range of units that introduce you to the early years sector. You will learn about child development, play activities, health and safety, and ways to support children’s learning and wellbeing. Alongside these sector-specific topics, you will develop transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, which are essential for progression.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 2 or above, including English and Maths, or equivalent.

A successful interview.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

You will study 10 units which must be achieved. These are designed to be taken over one year, giving learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills in the early years sector and supporting progression on to further study. It could be a substantial vocational qualification in a study programme that includes other appropriate subjects such as English and maths.
