Course Overview

A regulated Level 3 qualification for electricians who want specialist skills in installing, maintaining and commissioning grid connected PV systems. Fully aligned with BS 7671 and the IET Solar PV Code of Practice. Ideal for those expanding into the rapidly growing solar sector or pursuing MCS accreditation.

Technical and design content includes:
• PV module types, efficiencies and system components
• AC/DC design, configuration and protection
• Array sizing, positioning, orientation and system planning
• Compliance with IET regulations and industry standards

Practical installation & maintenance:
• Install module arrays and associated circuits
• Testing, verification and commissioning processes
• Servicing, fault finding, and system optimisation

Units included:
1. Requirements to install, commission & handover PV systems
2. Installation, commissioning & handover
3. Requirements for inspection, servicing & maintenance
4. Inspection, servicing & maintenance
Learners must be qualified, practising electricians with:
• NVQ Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification (or equivalent)
• BS 7671 (current edition)
• Initial Verification & Certification qualification or equivalent Competent Person Scheme status (Centres may assess capability.)
• Practical installation assignment
• Multiple choice exam
• Short answer written responses
• Successful learners gain the LCL Awards Level 3 Solar PV certificate
