Course Overview

Do you dream of designing the next major video game? Or maybe you’d love to animate, design game sets or become a 3D artist? Our Level 3 Games Development course will develop your skills in the creative and technical elements of games production. You’ll learn using the latest industry-standard equipment, specialist games labs, high-spec PCs and games development technology such as Wacom, Oculus and more. You’ll develop your skills using software and hardware such as Autodesk Creative Suite and Unreal and Unity games engines. With the professional techniques you acquire through lectures and tutorials, you’ll build a portfolio that reflects your personal strengths and interests.

More information

This course will help you build the practical skills and industry knowledge you need for a successful career in the Games Development industry. You’ll learn about a wide range of concepts, from level development pipelines to games mechanics, design and implementation. You’ll cover 3D modelling skills and develop an understanding of 3D games engines. Your practical learning will be complemented by theory sessions, giving you a solid foundation to start your career.

All of your University of Arts London (UAL) qualifications encourage you to explore a variety of methods and techniques, reflecting on them as you learn; this will be a fundamental part of your work.

Throughout the course, the skills you acquire in visual, audio and interactive production will build a foundation for you to choose a specialist route at university or to start your career.
4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English and Maths, or equivalent.

A successful interview.
Following tutor-led sessions, much of your practical work will be carried out during the college day. This may include non-timetabled sessions when you are working unsupervised to improve your skills.

In both years of the course, you will study a number of core units. You will then be asked to put your learning into practice and create a major production of your own devising. This final project is significant because it will be used to award your overall grade for the year.

There are no external exams on this course. The final qualification will be a UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Games Development.
