Course Overview

A nationally recognised qualification for electricians responsible for designing, installing, testing and commissioning domestic and small commercial EV charging equipment. Developed in line with the IET Code of Practice and BS 7671 to meet current industry standards for this fast growing sector.

Core content includes:
• Charging modes, equipment types, and WPT technologies
• Load calculations, design principles and installation planning
• Earthing arrangements and compatibility
• AC and DC installation methods
• Inspection, testing, verification, commissioning and documentation
• Risk assessment, safety requirements and regulatory compliance

Units typically included:
• Design of EV charging installations
• Installation & commissioning
• Inspection, testing & handover
Typically required:
• Level 3 NVQ Electrotechnical qualification (2357 or 2346)
• ECS Gold Card / JIB Electrician status
• Up to date BS 7671 Wiring Regulations qualification
• Competence in inspection, testing and certification (Some centres may carry out an initial capability assessment.)
• Multiple choice online/written examinations
• Short answer assessments
• Practical installation and verification tasks
• Learners gain the LCL Awards Level 3 EV Charging Installation certificate
No additional costs listed. Standard PPE required for workshops.
