Course Overview

A nationally recognised Level 3 qualification designed for heating professionals who want to gain the skills and certification needed to install, commission, maintain, and fault find air source and ground source heat pump systems that use non refrigerant hydraulic circuits. Ideal for those transitioning into renewable heating and seeking MCS aligned competence.

Units covered:
• Core Unit in Heat Pump Technology (Non Refrigerant Circuits)
o Heat pump principles, hydraulic system design, controls, commissioning, servicing, fault finding
• Air Source Heat Pump Technology (Non Refrigerant Circuits)
o Installation, system connection, testing, commissioning, maintenance

Learning outcomes include:
• Understand heat pump operation and efficiency
• Identify correct hot water cylinder and emitter system types
• Install, test, commission, and maintain non refrigerant heat pump systems
• Carry out diagnosis of system faults
• Apply MCS MIS 3005 and UK regulatory requirements
Learners must hold one of the following (or equivalent):
• N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing
• N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating & Ventilating (Domestic, Industrial, Commercial)
• N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance
• N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil Fired Technical Services
• Evidence of heating installer experience (Gas Safe, OFTEC, MCS, HETAS)
• Practical installation and commissioning assessments
• Written and short answer knowledge assessments
• Observed maintenance and diagnostic tasks
• Leads to an LCL Awards Level 3 certificate (renewal requirements vary by scheme)
No additional mandatory costs listed. PPE and standard working clothing recommended.
