A WILTSHIRE College & University Centre apprentice has been named one of the construction plant industry’s rising stars as part of an impressive showing that saw eight College apprentices recognised at prestigious national industry awards.
Jack Robinson, a Level 2 Plant Mechanic apprentice employed by Amey, was named Plant Mechanic of the Year – Midlands at the Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) Stars of the Future Awards 2026.
The annual awards celebrate some of the UK’s most promising construction plant apprentices and trainees, recognising technical ability, professionalism and future potential across the industry.
Reflecting on his achievement, Jack said: “Winning Regional Plant Mechanic of the Year for the Midlands is a fantastic achievement and something I am very proud of.
“It recognises my hard work, skills and dedication to my job. Being chosen as the winner from among so many talented mechanics shows the effort I put in every day and makes this a very special milestone in my career.”
Jack’s success was the highlight of a strong showing for Wiltshire College, with eight apprentices employed by Amey, SMT GB and Bristol Port Company recognised across the Level 2 Plant Mechanic and Level 3 Plant Technician categories.
Two Level 3 Plant Technician apprentices also received Highly Commended recognition. James Cuthbert, employed by SMT GB, was Highly Commended in the Midlands category, while fellow SMT GB apprentice Fraser Grigor received the accolade for Scotland.
Five more apprentices reached the regional finals: Bayley Lewis, employed by Bristol Port Company; and SMT GB apprentices Ben McManus, Scott Price, Kyle Pearcey and William Mitson.
The College was also shortlisted for the CPA College of the Year Award, recognising its commitment to supporting apprentices and working closely with employers across the construction plant sector.
Kellie Angell, Apprenticeship Manager at Wiltshire College & University Centre, said: “To have eight apprentices recognised and for the College to be shortlisted for College of the Year is a fantastic achievement.
“We’re incredibly proud of every apprentice who represented Wiltshire College. Their success reflects not only their own dedication and hard work, but also the commitment of our employer partners and staff.
“Congratulations to Jack on becoming Midlands Plant Mechanic of the Year, and to all of our finalists and Highly Commended apprentices.”
