More personalised tutorials for students

More personalised tutorials for students

AS THE new term gets underway, students at Wiltshire College & University Centre are now benefiting from a more personalised tutorial experience as part of the College’s Wiltshire Advantage.

What is the Wiltshire Advantage?

The Wiltshire Advantage brings together the wider skills, confidence-building and support students need alongside their qualification – helping you feel prepared for your next steps beyond college.

Under the updated approach, weekly tutorials for 16-19-year-olds are now largely delivered by lecturers within curriculum teams. This means you’re supported by staff who already know you and understand your course -making tutorials more relevant and personal.

By bringing tutorials closer to the classroom, you can build stronger relationships with your lecturers and have more meaningful conversations about progress, goals and next steps.

What does this mean for you?

Tutorials are designed to support your development beyond your subject. They give you time and space to:

  • Reflect on where you want to go next
  • Set goals and track your progress
  • Build skills like communication, problem solving and confidence
  • Get support that’s tailored to you and your course

Sessions are more interactive and student-led, encouraging discussion and active participation.

What students are telling us

Early student feedback suggests the Wiltshire Advantage is having a positive impact.

In a recent survey:

  • 94% of students said they’ve had a great experience on their course so far
  • Over 95% said they feel welcomed and respected at college
  • More than nine in ten said they feel mostly or fully prepared for their studies

These results highlight the importance of strong tutorial support and consistent relationships with teaching staff.

Built with students and growing over time

The Wiltshire Advantage has been developed with input from students and curriculum teams and is being rolled out gradually over a 12-month period. This allows the College to review what’s working, respond to feedback and continue improving the experience for students.

By placing personalised support at the heart of the student experience, the Wiltshire Advantage aims to help every student feel supported, confident and ready for what comes next.
