Open events welcome over 2,000 visitors this autumn

THAT’S A WRAP for Wiltshire College & University Centre’s Autumn open events. It’s been a busy time with over 2,000 visitors – making it the most popular series of open events we’ve hosted so far. It demonstrates continued interest from young people, adults and families exploring their next steps in education.

Across nine events held at our four campuses and our specialist University Centre at Castle Combe, visitors were able to meet lecturers, tour facilities and ask questions about courses, apprenticeships and university-level study.

What stood out most this season was the confidence visitors felt in taking their next step. At some of the events, around a third of guests applied on the day, and many more told us – in the feedback they chose to share – that they planned to apply soon.

Jo Lennon, our School Liaison & Admissions Manager at the College, said: “It’s a fantastic outcome and shows that our events are helping young people feel confident choosing us as their next step.”

One parent summed it up perfectly: “It was brilliant. Very excited for my daughter to be going here so she’ll have a good start to be able to do her dream job.”

When asked what they valued most, there was a consistent top three from our visitors:

  • Talking to lecturers
  • Touring the campus
  • Seeing the specialist facilities up close

“It was very good, and I would love to be able to come to the college full time to experience the wonderful working facilities it has to offer,” said one visitor.

Another visitor was surprised at how beneficial the open event was, stating: “The event went beyond expectations, I didn’t expect to get such a personalised look into the course and the set up. It was so useful being able to talk directly with the course lecturers and the support staff were all very helpful too.”

For many, the events provided the clarity and reassurance they needed to move forward confidently with their plans, and for some, the day sparked a complete change of direction.

“It allowed me to be 100% sure of what course I want to do,” one visitor explained, after receiving tailored advice based on their predicted grades.

Another visitor felt instantly at home, adding: “It’s a beautiful college, it has everything you can think of. Teachers and staff are friendly and for me, it feels like home.”

As the Autumn season closes, it’s clear that the combination of expert guidance, hands-on insight and a welcoming environment is helping prospective students make informed, inspired decisions about their futures.

Didn’t make it to one of our Autumn open events?

Don’t worry – we’re back in the New Year with another round.
