WCUC marks National Apprenticeship Week with Appren-T-Fest events

Wiltshire College & University Centre (WCUC) has marked National Apprenticeship Week through a series of careers fairs on campus.

National Apprenticeship Week is an annual celebration of apprenticeships that aims to raise awareness of the many benefits they can offer. This year’s event runs from Monday 5th February to Sunday 11th February.

WCUC is one of the largest providers of apprenticeships in the region, working with hundreds of employers locally and nationally to provide more than 70 different training programmes across a wide range of sectors and skill levels.

To promote apprenticeship job opportunities to young people across the county, WCUC is helping to host Appren-T-Fest events at its Salisbury, Trowbridge and Chippenham campuses, arranged in collaboration with the Swindon & Wiltshire Careers Hub.

The first event was organised by Apprenticeships in Salisbury and held jointly at WCUC’s Salisbury campus and Salisbury Sixth Form College on 25th January, with the second event hosted by WCUC at the Trowbridge campus on 2nd February.

A further event will be hosted by New College Swindon this week before a final event on 7th March at WCUC’s Chippenham campus.

Both the Salisbury and Trowbridge events were attended by more than 300 students from local secondary schools, with more than 20 employers hosting stands to promote their own apprenticeships and early careers opportunities.

Each event also featured informative sessions with Junior Saunders, who is well known for providing motivational talks on apprenticeships across the region.

WCUC will hosts additional apprenticeship-themed activities with its own students on campus throughout the week, and also part in employer engagement sessions with partner organisations across the county.

The National Apprenticeship Week celebrations will conclude with WCUC’s annual Apprenticeship Awards – a special ceremony held at the Civic Centre in Trowbridge on 22nd February.
