Winner: Large Apprenticeship Employer
Selwood Housing has been a vital part of local communities in Wiltshire, Somerset and BATHNES for over 30 years, offering affordable, safe and secure homes that give people a foundation on which to build their lives.
The Selwood team, which includes the maintenance department of Silcoa, is made up of 300 local people who really get to know their customers and are passionate about helping them. Selwood Housing and Silcoa have been working in partnership with the College for several years, supporting people to build their construction trade career through apprenticeships. This is in addition to providing opportunities in business and administration support.
Selwood not only take on new apprentices, but actively looks to upskill existing employees through the apprenticeship scheme. Selwood and Silcoa cover apprenticeships in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, customer service, accountancy, business administration and HR. A dedicated team supports all learners through their programmes.
Sally-Ann Brown, Group HR Manager at Selwood, said: “Selwood Housing Group has supported apprenticeships for several years. During that time, many apprentices have passed through the company; we’ve been pleased to see some of them taking permanent roles with us, and for those that have gone onto pastures new, we’re glad to have helped them progress.
“Our company is all about delivering services within the local community, and apprenticeships naturally tie in with that. It’s a chance to give others the opportunity to get into the world of work whilst studying, equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need. Managers within our business are keen to have apprentices within their teams, and as a result the number of apprenticeships we offer has gradually increased.”
The College values the strong working relationship it has with Selwood Housing and its continuing support as a local apprenticeship employer, which brought them recognition as a winner this year.
