19+ Bursaries

You should apply for the 19+ bursaries if you are:

Aged 19 or over on 31st August 2020 and:

enrolling on a Further Education course (either funded by the ESFA or an Advanced Learner Loan) and

resident in the UK or EU for at least 3 years

You should apply for the 16 – 19 bursaries if you are:

19 – 24 with an EHCP for 2020 – 21 or

Aged 19 but continuing on to the second year of your course

Bursaries Available:

19+ Hardship
Fund – for students studying at level 2 and below (or level 3 if you are aged 19 – 23 and do not have to pay course fees because you do not already hold a full level 3 qualification).

Advanced Learner Loans Bursary – for students who are paying for their course with an Advanced Learner Loan

Eligibility Criteria:

Evidence required

Living alone, employed with a gross annual income below £17,004.00

Last 3 months wage slips

Living alone or with a partner and/​or children where there is no income from employment and you are in receipt of benefits:

Universal Credit

Evidence of benefits

Living with a partner and/​or children where one or both adults are working with a gross annual household income below £35,000

3 Months wage slips and

Tax Credit award notice (if applicable)

Under 25 with no income, living with parents/​guardians whose income is below £35,000

3 Months wage slips and

Tax Credit award notice (if applicable)

Benefit evidence requirements

Scanned/​copied or a clear photograph of all pages only. Do not send original documents.

Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

202021 Tax Credits Award Notice (all pages) or

Benefit Award letter for the current tax year and the last 2 months bank statements indicating that payments have been made

Guaranteed element of the State Pension

Income Support

Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA)

Tax Credits

202021 Tax Credits Award Notice (all pages)

Universal Credit

3 most recent Universal Credit statements (all pages)

What you may get help with:

  • A meal on the days you attend college
  • Educational trips and visits
  • Kit/​tools/​equipment/​course materials
  • Required clothing including uniform and protective clothing (PPE)
  • IT equipment/​access
  • Travel to and from college on the days you attend college if you live more than 3 miles from college (measured by the shortest walking distance on Google Maps)
  • Travel and meals if you are required to attend essential Work Experience
  • UCAS fees and University trips
  • Childcare (parents under the age of 20) should apply to Care to Learn
