16 – 19 Bursaries

You could apply for a 16-19 bursary if you are:

  • Aged 16 – 18 (under 19 on 31st August 2020)
  • Aged 19 – 24 with a current EHCP/​MyPlan
  • Aged 19 on 31st August 2020 in the 2nd year of a 2‑year course

and

  • Resident in the UK or EU for at least 3 years
  • Enrolling on a course funded by the ESFA

Eligibility Criteria:

In Care

(Looked after by a local authority on a voluntary basis or under a care order)

  • Written confirmation from the Local Authority
  • Evidence of household income

Care Leaver

(A young person aged 16 and 17 who was previously looked after for a period amounting to 13 weeks which began after the age of 14 and ended after the age of 16; 

or

a young person aged 18 or above who was looked after prior to becoming 18 for a period amounting to 13 weeks which began after the age of 14 and ended after the age of 16)

  • Written confirmation from the Local Authority
  • Evidence of household income

In receipt of Personal Independence Payments (PIP) or Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and either Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or Universal Credit in your own name

  • Personal Independence Payments and either Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit
  • Disability Living Allowance and either Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit

Living independently and supporting yourself financially (or yourself and others who are financially dependent on you) and in receipt of benefits in your own right

  • Wage slips
  • Income Support
  • Universal Credit

Living with parent(s) or guardian(s) who are unemployed and in receipt of benefits

  • Income Support
  • Job Seeker’s Allowance
  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • Universal Credit
  • Pension Credits

Living with parent(s) or guardian(s) where one or both are working with a total gross household income below than £35,000

  • Wage slips and
  • Tax Credit award notice (if applicable)
  • Last 3 months wage slips

Additional criteria for Residential Bursary applicants only

Living with parent(s) or guardian(s) where one or both are working with a total household gross annual income between £35,000 and £45,000

Benefit Evidence Requirements:

Scanned/​copied or a clear photograph of all pages only. Do not send original documents.

Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

202021 Tax Credits Award Notice (all pages) or

Benefit Award letter for the current tax year and the last 2 months bank statements indicating that payments have been made

Guaranteed element of the State Pension

Income Support

Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA)

Tax Credits

202021 Tax Credits Award Notice (all pages)

Universal Credit

3 most recent Universal Credit statements (all pages)

What you may get help with:

  • A meal on the days you attend college
  • Educational trips and visits
  • Kit/​tools/​equipment/​course materials
  • Required clothing including uniform and protective clothing (PPE)
  • IT equipment/​access
  • Travel to and from college on the days you attend college if you live more than 3 miles from college (measured by the shortest walking distance on Google Maps)
  • Travel and meals if you are required to attend Work Experience or Industry Placement
  • UCAS fees and University trips
  • Childcare is available for parents under the age of 20. Applications should be made to Care to Learn 
  • Accommodation at Lackham (Land-based, Agriculture, Animal Care, Motorsport courses at level 2 or 3 only)
