Bursaries

2021-22 Financial Support and Bursaries for Students

The College holds bursary funds for students who meet the eligibility criteria to provide financial support towards the costs relating to attending college. Applicants are assessed on their individual needs.

Applicants must be enrolling on a Further Education Course funded by the ESFA and meet the residency criteria set out in the ESFA Funding Regulations for post-16 provision.

Students applying for Higher Education, University funding should apply here.

Bursary funds are limited so priority is given to students with the greatest financial need.

Available bursaries

16 – 19 Vulnerable Bursary

For students who are; in care, care leavers, receiving PIP or ESA and Universal Credit in your own name or living independently, financially supporting yourself (and anyone who is dependent on you) and in receipt of benefits.

16 – 19 Discretionary Bursary

For students with a household income is below £35,000 gross per year.

16-19 Residential Bursary

For students with a household income below £45,000 gross per year, studying Land-based, Animal Care or Motorsport courses and living outside a reasonable travelling distance to the Lackham campus.

Applications for Residential bursaries will only be considered after you have been offered a place on an eligible course and applied for your accommodation - apply here.

19+ Hardship Fund

For students studying at level 2 and below (or level 3 if you do not have to pay course fees because you do not already hold a full level 3 qualification). For students with a household income below £35,000 gross per year.

19+ Residential Bursary

For students with a household income below £45,000 gross per year, studying Land-based, Animal Care or Motorsport courses and living outside a reasonable travelling distance to the Lackham campus.

Advanced Learner Loans Bursary

For students who are paying for their course with an Advanced Learner Loan with a household income below £35,000 gross per year.

What are bursaries for?

Depending on your financial circumstances, your costs relating to attending college and available funds you may be able to get help towards:

  • Travel to and from college on the days you attend college if you live more than 3 miles from college (measured by the shortest walking distance on Google Maps)
  • A meal on the days you attend college
  • Travel and meals if you are required to attend Work Experience or Industry Placement
  • Kit/​tools/​equipment/​course materials
  • IT equipment/​access
  • Required clothing including uniform and protective clothing (PPE)
  • UCAS fees and University visits (level 3 students)
  • Wiltshire College & University Centre Resource fee
  • Educational trips and visits
  • Childcare for parents aged 20+
  • Parents under the age of 20 should apply to Care to Learn for childcare financial support
  • Accommodation at Lackham (Land-based, Agriculture, Animal Care, Motorsport courses at level 2 or 3 only)
  • How are bursaries awarded?


      Decisions about the amount of support awarded to successful applicants will depend on your individual financial circumstances and an assessment of financial needs. You must inform us immediately of any changes in income or changes to your timetabled hours at college.

      After we have received your completed application form and started the assessment process, we will contact you to request evidence of your financial circumstances.

      With the exception of travel and free college meals, no awards will be paid until after you start your course and have attended regularly for a minimum of 6 weeks.
